HOME CARE FOLLOWING SINUS SURGERY

-do not blow the nose for 48 hours after surgery unless otherwise instructed by your surgeon

-do not remove any packing that was inserted into the nose during surgery

-if you have to sneeze, do so with the mouth wide open so that the nasal packing is not dislodged.

-sleeping with the head elevated in a recliner will alleviate much of the facial and nasal discomfort and pressure

-change the moustache drip pad as needed

-use the moustache drip pads to catch drainage rather dabbing the nose

-avoid bending over, straining, or heavy lifting as these activities can aggravate bleeding

-take only prescribed medications to avoid medicines and vitamins that might aggravate bleeding

-return as scheduled for packing removal

-for severe bleeding contact your surgeon if your surgery was done at a surgicenter otherwise return to your hospital's emergency room for evaluation
